The collateral effects of Lockdown: Childhood overweight and Childhood Obesity

Due to the COVID 19 Lockdown, children are missing on scheduled schools hours, activity while transport to school, scheduled physical activity in schools and after schools hours, well-balanced meals and snacks.

They have a more sedentary life and increased intake of snacks rich in sugars and processed foods.

This leads to increasing their weight in an unhealthy way and eventually overweight/obesity.

Most of the scientists and public health bodies are predicting and already witnessing a sudden rise in childhood overweight and obesity.

Let's fight the hidden epidemics like Childhood Obesity.

Its time for a walk with your child.

Children are most affected because of the COVID Lockdown.

Outdoor interaction and playing with peers is important for a steady and stable development of a child.

Lockdown has forced children to stay at home.

It is time to stay safe and within the Govt rules, to go for outdoor activities for children like walking and cycling !!

Outdoor exposure, regular physical activity and adequate sunlight exposure maintain the emotional, physical and mental health of children.

Stay safe. Social distance. Wear Mask. Walk with your child.

In the coming winter, we have a risk of catching the Flu.
With ongoing pandemic and better hygiene practices, it is difficult to predict the risk or possibility of flu season.
Nevertheless, it is our responsibility to protect children, the elderly, and low immune people, especially.

SCREEN TIME- Too Much Is Too Bad !!

Higher screen time can hinder your child's emotional , mental and physical growth !!
Higher screen time can cause Obesity , Sleep problems , Emotional bluntness , Poor social skills , Speech problems , Anxiety , digital eye strain and also a risk of future heart disease.

Reducing the screen time improves your child's attention , sleep and social interaction !!

(Lockdown, Covid could have pushed many children to use more screen time !! Alternatives can be interactive activities like games with people , toys , Role play games , Drawing , Music , Helping out with chores at home )

Vaccines

You must have seen multiple schedules of vaccination for children. Ever wondered what`s the difference?

Vaccine schedule(Immunization schedule) many of the clinics, hospitals, or doctors follow is the one recommended by local Government authority. This is the bare minimum number of vaccines advised.

There are other organizations which suggest vaccine schedule to the public and also Governments. These are usually additional vaccines.

Your doctor/clinic/hospital may suggest a combination of schedule to ensure adequate Vaccination of your child.

Discuss with your pediatrician regarding the schedule followed.

Immunization in Children Across Countries πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬

The vaccination schedule is based on the specific country's Govt schedule and guidelines.

However, the majority of vaccines in less than 1 year are very similar across the borders. For example, UAE and Asian countries have similar vaccination schedules except for minor variations in the timing of the vaccines and combinations.
